Entrance to Hikawa Shrine da jpellgen (@1179_jp)

Hikawa shrine has an interesting mix of both myojin (curved kasagi) and shinmei (straight kasagi) style torii. You can see a stone shinmei style at the entrance, but just beyond it is a myojin torii of similar size. Hikawa shrine is perhaps the most important Shinto shrine in Kawagoe. The history of the shrine dates back to the 6th century and the grounds contain tree which are several hundred years old. It is famous for its Edo period architecture, particularly wood carvings by Matsudaira Naritsune. It is also known to be a shrine for married couples.
