Peleş Castle was built alongside Peleş Creek in a Bavarian style as a summer retreat for King Carol I and his wife Elisabeta (the novelist ‘Carmen Sylva’). The foundation was laid in 1873 CE and the official Royal Ball of Inauguration was held in 1883 CE. Later additions such as the towers were made between 1893 and 1914 CE. The 160 rooms are richly decorated. On Google Earth: Peleş Castle 45°21'35.42"N, 25°32'33.54"E
