Extensive and FREE. A great way to pick up some details on Chinese history and culture. We found the bronze & pottery exhibits particularly well done. All signs are also in English.
Beautifully curated history museum. Capacity limited so come earlier in the day. Can't beat the (free) admission. All descriptions written in English and Chinese. Splurge ¥40 for the audio guide.
Impressive in its sheer quantity. The fourth floor's collection of traditional ethnic minority costumes offers a refreshing burst of colour when you get tired of looking at yellowed scrolls. Free.
Shanghai Museum is famous for the bronze artworks. It also has a great collections of furnitures, paintings and calligraphies, but you need to arrive there early to avoid the long queue.
Take time out from viewing artefacts and have some green tea and cake in the cafe. A great way to rest and revive when feeling overwhelmed by all the treasures in the Museum.
