Built for a daughter who longed for a castle more permanent than those built in the sand at the beach, Mystery Castle is a wondrous work of folk-art architecture.

Just like the house on the Rock back in Wisconsin. The petroglyphs are over 800 years old! Don't forget the secret door under the alligator! Must see!

Original relics from Native Americans, Frank Lloyd's, and objects from other famous people, but if religious objects are upsetting, try not to go because these are spread throughout the entire castle.

I miss Mary Lou. The tour guides are passionate, and have a wealth of knowledge about Mary Lou, her father, and the place. If you are visiting Phoenix, this is a must go!

HISTORY

This unique building was built in 1930 by Boyce Luther Gulley for his daughter, Mary. It's built from a wide range of recycled materials. Electricity and plumbing weren't added until 1992.
